Make Seven Species shaped chocolate bar
At Tu B’Shvat we eat food associated with The Seven Species. Use mold to make your own chocolate creation. Adding dried fruits and nuts will make it a perfect treat and make a perfect Tu B’Shvat gift.
In your box:
The Seven Species Silicone Mold
You also need:
3 oz Dark chocolate baking chips
A handful of slivered Almonds, or other chopped nut of your choice (optional)
A handful of dried currants, or other chopped dried fruit of your choice (optional)
Instructions:
Step 1 - Rinse before use
Rinse the silicone mold in hot water before use
Pat dry with a towel
Step 2 - Melt (almost) 3 oz of chocolate
ADULTS ONLY
Place chocolate discs of your choice in a microwave safe bowl.
Heat the chocolate on medium for 1 minute.
Remove bowl and stir chocolate with a spoon.
Repeat steps 2-3 as many time as needed to get a smooth consistency and until the chocolate is melted.
The chocolate should reach syrup consistency. Make sure not to over cook your chocolate by leaving it for too long.
This step can take between 1 -5 minutes, depending on your microwave and your chocolate.
Step 3 - Tempering (optional)
To produce shiny chocolate that feels firm and breaks with a snap, you need to lower the temperature of the chocolate by adding a few extra discs and mixing them in with a spoon.
Step 4 - Pour the chocolate into the mold
Place the mold on a straight surface and pour the chocolate into the mold, guiding it with a spoon.
Step 5 - Remove air bubbles
Pick up the mold with both hands and gently tap it on your counter to get rid of air bubbles and fill all the empty areas.
Step 6 - Add fruits and nuts (optional)
Toast a handful of slivered almonds, or other nut of your choice*.
Prepare a handful of dried currants or small pieces of dried apricots.
Add to the ‘back’ of the chocolate while it’s still melted.
To keep a smooth appearance on the top - don’t insert the nuts too deep.
*You can also use raw nuts!
Step 7 - Refrigerate
Lay mold flat in the fridge, chocolate side up, for 30 mins until solid.
You can also place it in the freezer for 5-10 minutes for a quicker process - though this could compromise the quality of the chocolate.
step 8 - Remove the mold
Make sure the chocolate is set (try to remove it in one corner first).
Place on a flat surface and remove the entire mold gently, working your way from side to side.
Serve!
Make sure to rinse your empty mold in hot water right away.
You can also wrap the chocolate bar in baking paper and give it as a gift!!
