Assembly Instructions

Follow along to craft your own custom set of Shabbat candle holders.

1 Gather the project materials. For step 11, you will need the Shabbat candles which are packaged separately.

2 Knead to warm a piece of clay until it become pliable. (This may be easier for adult-sized hands).

3 Roll the clay into a smooth ball.

4 Press the clay lightly to flatten the top and bottom.

5 Use the metal disk as a reference to match the size. As much as possible, the size of the clay should match the circumference of the disk.

6 On its round side, place the clay on the wooden template at the start of the engraved letters.

7 Carefully roll the clay across the template with enough pressure to create an imprint. If you don’t get a result you are happy with the first time, that’s okay! Just roll the clay into a ball and return to Step 3.

8 Place clay on a baking sheet lined with tinfoil. Flatten out any bumps from the top surface.

9 Firmly, press the metal disk into the top of the clay.

10 Pinch clay around the edge of the disc to secure it in place.

11 Press candle through the opening of the disc to create a hole that is flush and 1/4” deep.

12 Before baking, remove the candle to reveal a hole in the center.

13 Repeat Steps 2-12 to create the second candle holder. Then, bake both holders (with the metal discs) for 45 minutes at 250°F. Allow pieces to fully cool before handling.

Now you’re ready to welcome Shabbat by lighting the candles!

1 Our candle holders were designed to welcome a peaceful Shabbat with a serene design. However, if you’d prefer, you can use fire-safe permanent markers or fire-safe paint to add a pop of color to the clay. Apply after baking.
