Sounds of the Shofar

The shofar is sounded at synagogue services on the two mornings of Rosh Hashanah and at the end of Yom Kippur. In some cities, you might hear a roving “shofar blaster” bringing the sounds to all.

The Torah refers to this day as “Yom T’ruah,” meaning “Day of Blowing [the shofar]” (Leviticus 29:1) and for thousands of years, the shofar has been blasted on Rosh Hashanah to wake us from our indifference.
