DIY Dragon Boat
During the Dragon Boat Festival we gather to watch or participate in Dragon Boat Races. This is to remind us of our agrarian ancestors’ rice harvests and of the villagers who tried to save the poet Qu Yuan from drowning. Decorate and build your own dragon boat to honor the spirit of this holiday!

Follow these steps to build your own Dragon Boat.
1 Gather the project materials.
2 Orient the two boat sides as shown so the engraved sides are facing down.
3 Apply foam squares to the locations shown here (when finished there should be two squares left over as spares).
4 With the text facing up, slide the tabs of the boat base into the holes along the bottom of the boat sides.
5 With the boat oriented as shown, slide the two sides to the left to lock them in place.
6 Insert the boat front (with the heart) into the slots as shown.
7 Insert the boat back into the slots as shown.
8 Insert the six oars into each slot diagonally, then straighten to hold them in place.
9 Choose colors for your Dragon Boat team and paint your boat.
10 Now your Dragon Boat is complete! Will your team win the race?
