Serves: 4
Total time: 1 hour
Active time: 15 minutes
If you’re new to pies, serving one up at your holiday meal can feel intimidating, which is why you’ll love this recipe for individual-baked apple pies, where the filling is baked inside the apple and topped with a simple lattice crust. It’s a no-mess way to enjoy apple pie! Enjoy with ice cream or whipped cream, if preferred.
Ingredients
6 granny smith apples
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp all-purpose flour
4 tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp nutmeg
¼ tsp ginger
Pinch sea salt
1 tbsp butter, cut into 6 pieces
1 sheet pie crust, thawed
1 tsp white sugar
Preparation
Preheat the oven to 375℉. Generously grease an 8x8” baking dish.
Slice off the top ½ inch of each apple. Using a spoon or a melon baller, scoop out the apples, leaving a ¼-inch border. Set aside the scooped apple, discarding the core and seeds.
Chop the reserved fruit and add to a medium bowl.
Add lemon juice, flour, brown sugar cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and a pinch of sea salt.
Add apple mixture to the hollowed-out apples. Top each apple with a cube of butter.
Roll out the pie crust and cut it into thin ¼-inch strips.
Weave a crust lattice on top of each apple.
Sprinkle it with sugar.
Add ½ inch of water to the bottom of the baking dish. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until the apple is tender and the crust is golden.
Serve immediately, and enjoy!
