Make fire chocolate

On Lag Ba’Omer, we gather around the fire as a tribute to the fires that ancient Judean rebels used for communication and to celebrate the sparks of wisdom revealed in the Zohar (the main book of Kabbalah, written by Bar Yochai).

Use this mold to make chocolate flames. Serve them as holiday treats, or as part of your Lag Ba’Omer s’mores.

In your box:

  • The Bonfire Silicone Mold

You also need:

  • 2.5 oz dark chocolate baking discs, or any chocolate of your choice

Step 2 - Melt (almost) 2.5 oz of chocolate

  1. Place 2.5 oz of chocolate discs into a microwave-safe bowl.

  2. Heat the chocolate on medium for 1 minute.

  3. Remove bowl and stir the chocolate with a spoon.

  4. Repeat steps 2-3 as many times as needed to get a smooth consistency and until the chocolate is melted.

    • The chocolate should reach syrup consistency. Make sure not to over cook your chocolate by heating it for too long.

    • This step can take between 1 -5 minutes, depending on your microwave and your chocolate.

Step 3 - Tempering (optional)

To produce shiny chocolate that feels firm and breaks with a snap, you need to lower the temperature of the chocolate by adding a few extra chocolate discs and mixing them in with a spoon.

Step 4 - Pour the chocolate into the mold

Place the mold on a flat surface and pour the chocolate into the mold, guiding it with a spoon.

Step 5 - Remove air bubbles

Pick up the mold with both hands and gently tap it on your counter to get rid of air bubbles and fill all the empty areas.

Step 6 - Refrigerate

Lay mold flat in the fridge, chocolate side up, for 30 mins until solid.

  • You can also place it in the freezer for 5-10 minutes for a quicker process - though this could compromise the quality of the chocolate.

Step 7 - Remove the mold

  1. Make sure the chocolate is set (try to remove it in one corner first).

  2. Place on a flat surface and remove each piece gently.

  3. Serve, or add them to your bonfire s’mores.

  4. Make sure to rinse your empty mold in hot water right away.
