Ladoos for diwali

Ladoos are delicious, round-shaped sweets that are made with flour, sugar, and purified butter (ghee)! There are a few different versions. This recipe for Besan Ladoos is perfect for Diwali. The flour is roasted with butter, shaped into balls, and garnished with nuts.

Besan Ladoos

Ingredients

Equipment

  • A heavy bottom pan is great for achieving a slow-roasted flavor, but a non-stick pan will do

  • A flat tray for cooling

Instructions

  1. Mix 1 tbsp of warm milk with 1 tsp of warm ghee.

  2. Mix in besan flour and let the mixture rest for about 5 mins.

  3. Run the flour mixture through a sieve to add texture.

  4. Add ½ cup ghee to a heavy bottom pan. Add flour mixture and roast on a low flame to release the flavors. Stir continuously until golden, and the smell is crazy delicious.
    • Some like to control the amount of ghee, and add more as needed to keep a smooth (but not runny) consistency

  5. Mix in ½ cup sugar and ¼ tsp of powdered cardamon.

  6. Transfer and flatten on a baking sheet to cool down for about 15 minutes.

  7. Shape into a 1.5” ball with your hands, and garnish with charoli and sliced almonds. Be creative!

  8. Store in an airtight container in the fridge.

  9. Bring to room temperature before serving.

YUM!!!!

  • You can also let the mixture cool down completely and cut into ‘burfi’ squares.

❤️ Thanks to Shuchi and Lalitha for the recipe and advice!
